The passing of a Livingston legend
Donald W. Roth, the man who brought us Don's Drive-In, has passed away at age 83. An LHS Class of '68 tip of the hat to Don, and all the memories he helped create by having that great idea long ago. His restaurant was such an institution, the New York Times wrote an about it back in 1987. There's also a nice article in Livingston Patch about Don's passing, and what made his restaurant special. Below is Don's obituary from the Newark Star-Ledger:

Donald Roth of Jupiter, Fla., passed away on Nov. 25, 2009, at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Mr. Roth was born in Newark, N.J., on April 28, 1926. He attended Newark Academy, The Pingry School, and The University of Richmond, Va. Prior to college, he served for two years in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1954, he opened Don's Drive-In, Livingston, N.J., which became a fixture on South Orange Avenue for over 40 years, serving his famous burgers to loyal customers. In subsequent years, the business expanded to include a pastry shop and gourmet deli. Don was passionate about the game of golf. He also loved reading, history, classical music, old movies, a good cigar, and will be remembered by all for his great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol; his six children, S. Robert Roth, Alyssa Nollman, Carolyn Puleo, Jaclyn Roth, Jon Roth and Bobbi Roth, and eight grandchildren, all who loved him deeply.

Amazing book by Joanne Grady just released
Joanne Grady Huskey's new book, The Unofficial Diplomat, is now for sale. It's the story of Joanne's life as the wife of an American diplomat, and she has a truly interesting tale to tell. She was in Tiannamen Square when the Chinese government attacked its own people. She was in the basement of the American embassy in Nairobi with her two children when Al Quada bombed the building. The book covers her years in China, Taiwan, India and Nairobi. Totally fascinating. You can order it now at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. For more information about Joanne and her book, visit her website. Way to go Joanne! (And we're glad you're safe.)

Congratulations to Steve Schifferes
After 20 years as a journalist at the BBC, Steve is leaving to become the Marjorie Dean Professor of Financial Journalism at London City University, setting up and running a new MA course in financial journalism – the first of its kind in Britain. Awesome, Steve! (But don't get so comfortable over there that you don't come back for our next reunion.)

DVD is now available!
By now everyone who ordered a DVD should have received it (if you didn't, please let us know). And it's pretty darn good, if we do say so ourselves. Over two hours' worth of videos and slideshows from our special night last September. It's never too late to order one. If you are feeling left out, drop us a line.
